Plas Mansion NHC2

Project Description

In 2018, Moss Technical was commissioned to complete a full home automation installation on a property in South Wales, using Niko Home Control 2 (NHC2).

The property, a 16th century mansion overlooking the sea, is grade 2* listed and therefore required an extra special approach. The client wanted to focus on the aesthetics of the property, introducing modern technology whilst retaining the old, listed feel.

Added benefits of installing a home automation system such as Niko Home Control included improved security and safety, comfort, energy efficiency and future proofing capabilities.

The installation was wired by the client’s local electrician but Moss Technical assigned a cabling schedule which included lighting, heating and AV capabilities.

The project began and moved at a steady pace. Although Moss Technical were not onsite at all times, the client and the electrician kept in touch. If new cable schedules were required or amendments needed completing, Moss Technical were on hand to produce these quickly ensuring the project ran smoothly.

Once all the first fix cables were in place, the Moss Tech team were able to start the installation of the home automation equipment.

Around half way through the project, Moss Technical were also asked to supply and commission WIFI and TV distribution. This was added to the cabling schedule for the electrician to first fix and the 2nd fix was then completed by Moss.

Near the end of completion, the client wanted to add some audio to the rooms. Cabling was complete at this stage so Moss Tech suggested using a Niko partner product, Sonos. The client now has access to music through Play:1 Sonos Speakers with voice control through Alexa. Moss were also able to integrate the music with some specific Niko lighting scenes. With the touch of a button a scene is set and music starts playing to the clients’ favourite channel.

The internal project was deemed such a success, the client has now commissioned Moss Technical to design all the exterior lighting features at the property. There will also be a Niko video entry station installed so visitors calling to the property can be allowed access even if the client is not at home.

The clients’ favourite features include the ‘Eco Save’ button. This button is positioned by the front door and allows the client to switch all lighting and heating off/to energy save mode from a single switch. So, if he’s forgotten to turn off the lights in the bedroom, he doesn’t have to run anywhere to turn it off. Another favourite feature is the music integration in a number of rooms, allowing the client to enjoy his music at all times.
